1st XI Saturday 28th June 2008 Knaresborough (Away) The last game of the first half of the season took us to Knaresborough on a decent looking day although showers threatened. The toss was lost and we were invited to bat on what looked like a decent track. Matt Pinniger was soon into his stride making batting look pretty easy against the division's top side. An excellent opening stand of 107 was broken when Tim Sugden (18) was bowled by Metcalfe. The usually dependable Baxendall had no answer to the class of Pinniger who raced to a third consecutive hundred before finally being caught behind on 144. Other decent contributions came from Lee Bilbrough (43), Yasser Ali (15) and Zeeshan Qasim (19). On one of the biggest fields in the league a target of 276 looked a long way off although in batter friendly conditions the top side should look to get close. The opening pair didnt look interested in chasing down the total as Zeeshan, Yasser and Dave Wynn all bowling tight opening spells. Andy Pullen then removed the woeful Williams which brought Aussie Tormey to the crease. Tormey set about chasing down the total in aggressive fashion putting on 120 for the second wicket with skipper Prior. Some pretty average fielding gave the home side a sniff although once Yasser removed Tormey (71) and then Corcoran 2 balls later it was a case of would it be a 4-2 or 5-1 with the 3/4 score being 207. Wickets began to fall regularly with the last 7 batsmen being dismissed for only 12 runs. With 2 needed off the last ball for Knaresborough to get 2 points the field was brought in only for Baxendall to sky a Yasser full toss straight to the safe hands of Pinniger handing Silsden a well deserved 5 points. Yasser bowled superbly to finish with 4- 67 from 23 supported well by the ever dangerous Quasim, 3 - 62 from 16 and some very important overs in the middle of the innings from Wynn. The gap is now only 3 points going in to the second half of the season. Lets just hope for some improving weather for the always eventful trip to Bardsey! Saturday 21st June 2008 Harden (Home) The warm up was as far as we got on the worst Saturday weather we have seen for years. No ground was lost however as the whole league programme was washed out. On to table toppers Knaresborough for what should be a cracker! Saturday 14th June 2008 New Rover (Away) We set off to New Rover with high hopes of taking all 6 points against the bottom club and keeping the pressure on the teams above us. Yet again the coin came down on the wrong side and we were asked to bat on what looked a decent enough track. After a grafting away last week batting seemed much easier for the opening pair of Pinniger and Sugden against a pretty average looking attack, significantly weakened by the loss of Brown, out with a broken hand. Runs seemed easy to come by and the score raced to 130 without loss in no time. Matt passed 100 for the second successive week and was well supported by Tim Sugden who played some excellent attacking shots before falling on 44. In came Meehan who kept up the run rate and provided excellent support for Matt who was scoring at will and making batting look very easy. Matt was eventually out for exceptional 163. Meehan was not out for 65 and again provided more support for the big hitting Yasser Ali who smashed his way to 55 in quick time with Silsden declaring the innings on 353 - 4. The odd spot of rain in the air meant a declaration was a sensible option giving our bowlers 57 overs to bowl out the bottom side. Zeeshan was soon in to his stride taking two wickets in two balls, both bowled, before we were even in to New Rovers overs. The only man who looked any way near comfortable was Richmond who batted well for his 35. The innings meandered forward with none of the middle orfder getting in but proving stubborn until an inspired bowling change by skipper Sugden brough PK in to the attack who immediately removed Richmond, well caught by Meehan, who was immediatley followed by the next man, superbly caught by the flying Pinniger in gully. The end was near, Zeeshan was brought back in tot he attack to mop up the tail and the ever young Andy Pullen chipped in to end the New Rover resistance. The innings closed on 130 with some 30 overs to spare. Superb again from Zeeshan and PK backed up by some excellent catching and ground fielding. Home this week to second bottom club Harden where we will need to keep up the momentum before the trip to table toppers Knaresborough. |

2nd XI Saturday 28th June 2008 Menston (Home) Match report to Follow. Saturday 21st June 2008 Thackley (Away) The decision was an easy one as the 2nd XI was also lost to the weather. Not a ball was bowled anywhere in the league. On to Menston who are only 1 point above us in what is a very tight mid table. A good 6 points could put us in touching distance of the top teams at half way. Saturday 14th June 2008 New Rover (Home) Silsden 2nd XI produced a solid all round performance to beat New Rover by 7 wickets. Winning the toss and fielding first, the Silsden bowlers restricted New Rover to a modest 81 all out. Jonathan Ridley and Anthony Darnbrook were the pick of the attack, each taking 3 wickets apiece. James Tillotson once again showed the value of spin bowling, taking 2 for 13 of 7 overs. Chasing 81, Chris Barrett and Matt Shuttleworth opened the batting for Silsden, Shuttleworth made a quick 11 before departing, given out lbw. Barrett hung around slightly longer for his 12 runs, however was harshly given out caught behind after clipping his foot with his bat. Nathan Bradbury and Stuart Tillotson made lighter work of the New Rover attack, Tillotson finishing unbeaten on 24, Bradbury missing out on a red inker, playing on to his stumps for 17. Silsden reached their target with 6 wickets and 30 overs remaining. New Rover bowler R. Nimmo bowling well with figures of 4 for 32. Saturday 7th June 2008 Olicanian (Home) Silsden skipper Matt Shuttleworth once again lost the toss and was put into bat by the opposition skipper. The wicket showed some surface moisture from the mornings shower, however warranted a better score than the 69 that was posted. Stuart Tillotson topped scored for Silsden with 26, falling to leg spinner Phillips. Phillips then tore through the Silsden middle order, returning figures 5 for 6 of his 7.3 overs. Silsden’s second top scorer was Nathan Bradbury, he scored 18 before being clean bowled going back to a full length ball than nipped back through the gate. In reply to Silsden’s 69 Olicanian set about in nervous fashion, Kieren Lawrence taking a wicket with his first delivery. However, 69 was no where near a competitive total with Olicanian reaching there target off 22 overs. Despite the low score, Silsden bowled and fielded with energy and enthusiasm, taking 5 wickets in the process, 2 wickets for the ever improving Carl Jopson and one a piece for the opening pair of Shuttleworth and Lawrence. Wicket keeper Nathan Bradbury having one run out to his name. Sunday 8th June 2008 - Burley (Away) On red hot day at 1st division Burley, Silsden 2nd X1 turned in much improved display against a much better team than the previous day. Bowling first Silsden bowled and fielded with discipline and energy, bowling a tight line and restricting the Burley batsmen to singles. 6 bowlesr were used by Silsden, with wickets for Darbrook, Jopson, Shuttleworth and 3 for James Tillotson (all stumped) who bowled especially well, his leg spin causing a constant problem for the Burley batsmen. Richard Porter and Jonny Ridley also bowled tight spells without taking a wicket. xml:namespace prefix = o /> xml:namespace prefix = o /> xml:namespace prefix = o /> After restricting Burley to 155 for 9, Silsden fancied their chances of causing an upset. Losing the early wickets of Barrett and Bradbury, Stuart Tillotson and Porter set about rebuilding the innings in fine fashion, Tillotson making 23 before being caught well at gully. Porter went on to make 48, being well supported by Ashley Sagar (19) before being triggered lbw. That decision swung the momentum Burley’s way, despite a quick 12 and 11 from Darnbrook and Shuttleworth respectively, Silsden never really recovered, Darnbrook being caught one handed by the Burley skipper with a ball that was destined for the boundary. Silsden eventually were bowled out 9 agonising runs short of the Burley total, disappointed but not devastated Silsden look to take the many positives into their league games starting this week against New Rover C.C |
