Hall Park v Silsden 2nd XI (Away)

The second team made an encouraging start to the 2012 season but left Hall Park with no points. After winning the toss Silsden elected to bat but suffered the early loss of Stuart Tillotson with the score on just 15. Steady progress was made however with Chris Barrett top scoring with 66 with the main support coming from Andy Pullen (32) and Joe Hunt (30). JJ Berry also hit a quickfire 18 before Silsden were all out in the 48th over for a competitive looking 178.

In the second half Hall Park made there intentions clear as the left handed openers pushed the score to 49 in quick time before the first wicket fell. A succession of bowling changes were made to little effect as Hall Park continued to attack. However Silsdens young opening bowlers changed ends and launched a fight back inspired by Jack Roberts 5-55 as 134-1 became 146-5. Nathan Riley took the 6th wicket with the score on 168 but it proved too little too late as the home side won the game in the 48th over with a boundary through mid wicket. Silsden will hope for better luck next Saturday when the other Horsforth based team come to town. TOP

Silsden 2nd XI v Horsforth (Home)

Silsden will have to wait for their first win of the season after a calamatous batting display cost them at home to Horsforth. Skipper Chris Barrett won the toss and invited the guests to bat on a pitch dampened by torrential midweek rain. The Horsforth batsmen showed there were few demons in the wicket however and got off to a confident start taking the score to 36 before Joe Hunt took the first wicket after a smart stumping by keeper Hugh Sudgen. Another decent partnrship was added before Ryan Jennings took a wicket with the first ball of his spell. Jennings struck again with a caught and bowled, but the visistors will have been content to reach drinks 95-3. Silsden openers Jack Roberts and Joe Sugden returned for their second spells and momentum swung back the home sides way. Sugden took 4-29 and Roberts 2-25 giving Andy Pullen the chance to return and take the last Horsforth wicket with another stumping. The Silsden bowlers had stuck to their task well leaving it over to the batters to try and chase down 144 and with 57 overs to get them in.

The hosts reply started well enough as they reached 30-0 thanks to 16 from Stuart Tillotson and a number of extras. Things soon started to go wrong however. Tillotson was dismissed LBW and was shortly followed by the losses of Barrett and Pullen in successive balls. Hugh Sugden was left trying to prop up the Silsden innings but recieved little support from the middle order as batsmen came and went in quick succession. Sugden was eventually out for 22 and the victory target was a long way off. Fifteen year old Tom Greenwood provided the one bright spot of the innings as he made a composed 18, but when he was last man out, Silsden had been skittled for 95 with 20 overs still left in the match.
