Previous Fundraising Event

Saturday 24th April saw the first of this year's fundraisers, the Chicken & Mouse disco playing music from the 70s, 80s & 90s.

The First Team's winning draw against Steeton and the Second Team's win generated a celebratery mood and the event was supported by 70+ players and their families plus supporters of the Club. Many made the extra effort and came in fancy dress as can be seen from the photos(maybe we should have had a prize for the best, though I wouldn't have liked to be the judge!)

Thanks to The Craven Heifer, Skipton, for providing the delicious pies, the sale of which, in addition to the raffle and ticket money, enabled almost £400 to be raised on the night.

End Of Season Message

The end of another season is now upon us and the club would like to thank all persons who helped out during the 2011 campaign. There is obviously a lot of work behind the scenes and firstly the committe and officials would like to thank those who kept the club on the straight and narrow this year. The ground was once again in top condition due to the work of Stuart, Hugh and Joe, culminating in Silsden hosting a Yorkshire u12 game and a u15 Taveners semi final between Huddersfield and Bradford and with the new scorebox in full flow the ground was ranked among the best in the league.

Captains Lee Bilbrough and Chris Barrett did excellent jobs with both teams in what was an consolidation year and hopefully we can build on that next year.

Once again the tea ladies and junior refreshment helpers worked wonders in providing an superb service and contributing to our funds. Several juniors played senior cricket this year and thanks to Tim, Andy and Paul, plus all the scorers and parents who helped run the junior section this yearr.

Finally thanks to sponsors and contributors for their financial support. We will have a seasons playing review to follow but on behalf of the club thank you to one and all.

Both teams played excellently on the last day of the season. The 1st XI fought hard away at Hall Park, picking up all 6 points making them climb above rivals Addingham in the table. The 2nd XI set a decent score in the first innings with most batters contributing well. They had to make do with a makeshift bowling side due to injuries and struggled to bowl out the tail enders. Both sides pulled back their form in the latter half of the season. more>

Silsden CC Represents First Ever UAJCL All Girl Under 11 Side

Silsden CC junior Jessica Savage-Tatterton was selected to play in the UAJCL's first ever all girls under -11 representative side who took on a boys team at Steeton on Wednesday 13 July. Although the boys won the game by 54 runs the girls, having only had just one coaching session from Charlotte Boulton and one practise match, showed great promise and enthusiasm against the more experienced boys.

Jessica bowled a tidy spell and, when batting, hit one of only two fours scored by the girls when she connected with a loose delivery and smashed it high over the inner ring of fielders to the midwicket boundary.

Jessica follows a 40+ year continuous family connection with Silsden CC. Dad Paul Tatterton is Club Treasurer and has just completed 25 consecutive seasons with the Club and grandad Bob Savage played from 1968 to the early 1990's, served on the Committee and is a past Club Chairman and President.

Passing Of Silsden CC Stalwart Derek Jackson

Derek Jackson PhotoSilsden Cricket Club is saddened by the passing of MrDerek Jackson who passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning peacefully at his Silsden home. Derek was truly a remarkable and unique figure who carried out every duty the club had to offer. As a high quality alrounder; very capable batsman, leg spin and googly bowler, he played for the club through five decades and was well known throughout the Airedale Wharfedale league. He was first team captain 1968-72, second team captain 1981-83, club secretray 1960-66, club tresurer 1977-78, chairman 1973-74, president 1984-88 and a vice president. He also served as a trustee of the sports field. Derek was also a good golfer and a past captain of Silsden golf club. The tradition was carried on with son David who played for Silsden and grandson Sam who plays with the Under 11s. Our thoughts are with Barbara, David and Linda and all the grandchildren and greatgrand children. Ian pullen and Tim Sugden said that it's the end of an era, these people who put so much time into a club are no longer about and derek's endevours over the past years will not be forgotten. A minutes silence will be observed at Silsden 2nd XI match at home this week and at the 1st XI match next week. The funeral will take place on Friday 6th August at 1pm at St James'.
